Sustainability Career and Transition Program
The Sustainability Career and Transition Program builds on Esquimalt High School's long tradition of environmental and socially responsible education. Some of the work of previous students and current staff is highlighted in the work of ESCAPE, Interact, EYCI, ESQ Student Leadership, and the Seaquarium clubs. Through these types of opportunities as well as the courses listed below the Sustainability Career and Transition Program provides students with a strong practical and theoretical background in environmental and social justice issues, technologies and industries. The program helps students understand how sustainability is being addressed in the local community, around our region and province, across Canada and around the world. Through their involvement in the Sustainability Career and Transition Program and the many affiliated community agencies students address relevant issues and develop career awareness, interpersonal communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
The Sustainability Career and Transition Program is designed to support the growth of students’ abilities to direct their own learning and, by raising school and community awareness support the transition to a more sustainable future. Working within the BC Ministry of Education's framework for sustainability education the program uses a range of educational methods, including: systems and futures thinking, inquiry, discovery, active learning, and problem-solving
Applicants should have a keen interest in one or more topics related to the environment and social justice and be interested in exploring career options in these fields.
Good work habits, strong motivation and a positive attitude will help ensure success.
